Radeon RX 580 VS Geforce GTX 1060 – Running RE2 on Popular Hardware

The Radeon RX 580 and the Geforce GTX 1060 are two of the most popular graphics cards on the market, offering relatively affordable pricing that enough hardware grunt to push games well past what consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One can offer.

Below we have tested Resident Evil 2 using all of the game’s default graphical presets, showcasing RE2’s tremendous scalability on PC. In most cases, the RX 580 pushes way past the GTX 1060, but neither GPU offers terrible performance within this game. Both the ASUS RX 580 Strix and ASUS GTX 1060 Strix GPUs that we tested are perfect for playing this game at 1080p 60+ FPS, with lowering the game’s Volumetric Lighting setting to medium ensuring 60+ FPS at all times at 1080p.

1440p is a challenge for these graphics cards, but as we have shown on page 4, even Resident Evil 2’s Performance Priority preset can look good, though our advice is to set Volumetric lighting to medium on this preset and push the game’s textures as far as your graphics card will allow, assuming you have the performance overhead to do so.
