Resident Evil 2 Remake PC Performance Review

Scaling on Older Hardware – 2GB R9 380 VS GTX 960

At maximum settings, the ageing Radeon R9 380 and Geforce GTX 960 were pushed far beyond their limits, resulting in framerates that are too low to be considered playable.

The era of 2GB graphics cards is coming to a close, with modern games requiring ever-increasing amounts of VRAM, both to store textures and to implement the advanced features that have allowed current-generation consoles to extend far past the graphical limits of their predecessors.

We wanted to prove that these two graphics cards are still more than capable of running Resident Evil 2 at 60FPS, though it required the game’s Performance Priority Preset to do so. Even so, both graphics cards have enough headroom to posh a few settings higher while maintaining 60+ FPS framerates, so a little more tinkering could allow these GPUs to stay over 60 with relatively good visuals.
