Resident Evil 3 Remake PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

DirectX 12 VS DirectX 11 – Which API is the fastest?

When Resident Evil 2 release in 2019, we added it to our list of “games with a disappointing DirectX 12 implementations”, but that is not the case with Resident Evil 3.

On Page 3, you could see that DirectX 12 could benefit users with lower-end processors, but sadly, these same benefits do not extend to GPU-limited scenarios.

On both Radeon and Nvidia graphics hardware, Resident Evil 3 runs faster using DirectX 11, though the performance gap isn’t as large as what we had seen with Resident Evil 2. Capcom has clearly been working on their RE Engine’s DirectX 12 support, but at this time, DirectX 11 will be the superior API for most gamers.

Unlike Resident Evil 2, this isn’t a “DirectX 12 mode isn’t worth using” situation. If you are CPU limited, DirectX 12 can deliver you better system performance, but the same can’t be said for CPU-limited systems.
