AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X 64 Core Monster Review

Blender

Blender is a free rendering program that is supremely powerful. If you ever find yourself wondering why 3D elements take so long to create in films or games, a moment with Blender will show how much raw horsepower you need to perform even the simplest tasks. We have our own custom blend render available in both 1080P and 4K.

We were tempted to leave this result until a little later on in our review, because 3D rendering is unquestionably the thing that the Threadripper 3990X is best at. After this, and Cinebench, its qualities are more difficult to define. However, we know that we’d be impatient to see the full majesty of the 64 core monster doing its thing, and so we expect you are too. We have to say it made us chuckle that the 3990X can render a 4K scene in the time it takes the outstanding Intel 10980XE to render a 1080P one.

To put this into context, if you were crazy enough to do your own version of Toy Story using the 3990X and 10980XE processors, the Threadripper would be just bringing Andy’s puppy to him whilst the Intel CPU is still telling us that the claw is our master. Yes we know that the core count is what does this, but it emphasises how much faster your workflow would be if this is what you do with your day.
