HEVC does a similar thing to the x.265 benchmark but instead of running with the x265 encoder it utilises the popular H.265 format which is rapidly becoming the standard for video encoding. Based around the same foundation as the x265 encoder the same problems occur, wherein the 3990X has more on tap than the encoder is designed to utilise, and thus the rendering speed doesn’t really reflect the 3D rendering results we’ve just seen. A good demonstration of how letting the processor work its own clock speeds, as well as how little the encoder utilises all cores, is how low down the chart our fixed 3.6 GHz overclock is.
