Agents of Mayhem PC Performance Review

AMD VS Nvidia – RX 480 VS GTX 1060 – Low to Ultra Settings

Looking at this graph the first thing that should be noted is that AMD’s RX 480 does not perform well at Ultra settings, offering performance that is completely unplayable. This is way lower than where performance should be and we have narrowed this huge performance deficit down to a single setting in Agents of Mayhem’s Graphical options menu, Nvidia HFTS Sun Shadows.

Once Nvidia HFTS shadows are turned down to Nvidia PCSS PLUS, performance levels move to expected levels, though it is startling to see such a crippling option enabled by a game on a default graphical preset. One other thing to note is that Nvidia Volumetric God Rays are only enabled on Nvidia GPUs when using the game’s Ultra present, highlighting another difference in the game when using Nvidia hardware.

When comparing AMD’s RX 480 and GTX 1060 we can see that performance is relatively close, with our ASUS GTX 1060 having a clear performance advantage. This performance gap would be narrower if we were using an RX 580, or if AMD provided an optimised game driver, though it is clear that Nvidia users will generally have an easier time playing Agents of Mayhem at high framerates.
