Graphical Comparison – Low to Ultra – Part 2

In this selection of screenshots, you can see how terrain detail is drastically altered at low settings, with much of the level geometry taking on a fundamentally different appearance while the removal of HBAO removes the scenes ambient shadows, making the contrast even more apparent.

At low pop-in will be an issue, especially for terrain details, with rocks popping in from nowhere are you move throughout Battlefield V’s single player campaign and online multiplayer. The game is undoubtedly playable at low, but far from optimal.

Moving from Medium to high, the primary graphical differences are as follow, higher resolution terrain details are present while more objects are drawn in at a distance. Outside of these screenshots SSR (screen space reflections are added to make reflections of puddles and other details appear more realistic).

When looking at the distant mountains we can see that Battlefield V’s high preset adds more vegetation, and around the player’s feet we can see that there is both a higher polygon count to the terrain and an increase in texture detail, both of which add to the environment’s realism.

At this locations, it is hard to see any major differences between High and Ultra, with the only big change being a notable increase in rain particles, with other changes being nigh unnoticeable.

Ultra settings can drastically increase draw distances, but that only matters in scenes where you can see into the far-off distance, which will not be the case for a number of the game’s missions and maps. While immersed in gameplay some players might not even notice the difference between High and Ultra settings in a lot of cases.
