Assassin’s Creed Odyssey PC Performance Review

Assassin's Creed Odyssey PC Performance Review

Introduction – Has Ubisoft addressed Origin’s issues?

Assassin’s Creed has had a mixed history, especially on the PC platform. Back in the days of Assassin’s Creed II, the series was mired with controversy due to Ubisoft’s use of an always-online DRM solution, or even the original game, which to this day offers PC gamers a restricted graphical options menu when played at resolutions of 1080p or higher.

What I’m getting at here is that Assassin’s Creed has had issues on PC for a while, even during its early years, long before the likes of Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Syndicate forced the series into a two-year hiatus.

With the reemergence of the series in 2017 with Assassin’s Creed: Origins, we can summarise our thoughts on the game’s PC version with a single word, disappointing. Yes, the game offered new gameplay options and an enjoyable single-player mode, but PC performance wasn’t where it should have been, with the game being almost impossible to run at 60 FPS in demanding areas while offering atrocious performance on Radeon hardware.

For those who are interested, our original Assassin’s Creed: Origins PC performance Review remains available to read on the website, with Odyssey promising one of two things on the performance front, more of the same, or a level of improvement which could transform the title’s PC version into something spectacular.

When we heard that AMD had partnered with Ubisoft to create Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, excitement started to build. The performance of Radeon graphics hardware was sub-par in Origins, something that would no doubt be addressed thanks to the aid of AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group. On top of that, AMD is a major player in the CPU market, a factor that could help Ubisoft address the game’s CPU performance issues, potentially two of our greatest criticisms of its predecessor in on fell swoop.

In this review, we will be looking into Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey’s performance on PC hardware, which will hopefully show you what to expect from the game when you run it on your system. Will it be good, bad or awful, read more to find out.
