Death Stranding 2: On the Beach PC Performance Review

Nvidia DLSS

Use DLSS instead of PICO

Overall, Nvidia’s DLSS AI upscaling technology delivers better visual results than Death Stranding’s PICO (Progressive Image Composter) upscaler. Overall, DLSS has slightly higher performance overhead, though it is worth it for its better visual output.

DLSS provides a high level of scalability for Death Stranding 2 players. Using DLSS in Performance Mode doubles our framerates compared to native 4K. Add on Frame Generation, and we can shoot our average framerates above 200 FPS.

Sadly, it looks like Death Stranding 2’s frame generation implementation may have some frame pacing issues. We can see that our 1st percentile framerates are much lower than our 5th percentile framerates when FG x3 and x4 modes are enabled. We have seen this kind of issue before in games like Dying Light: The Beast. For that game, patches/updates addressed these frame-pacing concerns. Hopefully, the same will be true with Death Stranding 2.
