Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

CPU Performance

CPU Performance

Cyberpunk 2077 is hard on CPUs. The game simulates a large city and has the potential to even bring high-end gaming CPUs to their knees. Sadly, Cyberpunk 2077’s built-in benchmark does not represent the true CPU performance of the game. The real game can be much harder on CPUs. This is why we have used a custom CPU benchmarking scene for the tests below.

Below, we have tested an area outside of “Tom’s Diner” in Night City. Outside of this diner is a crowded area that is filled with NPCs. This area can see CPU performance drop far below the performance levels we see within Cyberpunk 2077’s built-in benchmark. Even Intel’s flagship CPU, the i9-13900K cannot run Cyberpunk 2077 at 120+ FPS in this custom scene.

As you can see, the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 does benefit from having access to more CPU cores. That said, the performance gains above six cores are limited. Framerates drop dramatically when using our CPU in a 4-core configuration. We recommend having at least six strong CPU cores to play Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. PC gamers will need to wait for future CPUs, or rely on frame generation technologies like DLSS 3 or FSR 3 to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 at at 120+ FPS framerates.
